The membership grows steadily, and we can now welcome Amy Kann, Mark Porter & Alicia Ponzio to our professional section.
The British artist, Mark Richards has also become an International Member recently.
I was asked recently, "What was the purpose in creating this society specific to portrait work?". There is no doubt that in some quarters, the genre is considered old fashioned. Old certainly ( in fact ancient), but sculptors still continue to find new and exciting ways of portraying their subjects.
I think the examples of our contemporaries and the library of Artists from the past and present in our 'Featured' section show how incredibly different one artist's stylistic approach and choice of material can be from another. Only the disciplines remain the same.
I've been a member of the UK Soc. Of P.Sculptors, (the SPS), for many years and it surprised me to find that something similar did not exist in the Americas. It was with this thought in mind that the team decided to put this to rights.
The SPS puts on a wonderful and very popular exhibition of members and Non-Members work in Central London annually. In fact, one of our new members, Alicia Ponzio, exhibited at their48th Exhibition this year in Cork Street, Central London. It is our intention to do something similar eventually.
